02. Keyword Research

Most keyword research tools are similar. You type in a keyword phrase or niche topic and a list of relevant keywords is returned with search and results data. Some tools even show CPC (cost per click) and competition backlinks. What if you could access a keyword tool that actually shows you the most profitable keywords online and the keywords that attract the most traffic? I have found such a tool called Keyword Country and it is like asking Google to show you the most profitable keywords to use for your website. Actually, Keyword Country is a Keyword Search Engine with a database of over 6.5 million keywords and 600,000 industries. Updated every 10 days.

компютриKeyword Country shows you information such as:

  • Max CPC
  • Number of Advertisers
  • Number of Clicks per month
  • Estimated EPC (more accurate than CPC)
  • Number of competitors (actual competitors)
  • KEI Analysis
  • R/S Ratio
  • Number of Searches (according to Overture)
  • Traffic on Google (estimated) …and much more!

Do advanced searches according to your own specifications or even blank searches to find out what keywords are the most profitable online. Great for choosing a niche as well as associated keywords.

  • Gives you access to:
    • Most searched keywords that exist on planet earth
    • Most clicked keywords
    • Most high paying keywords
    • Most low competition high value keywords
    • Anchor texts that work

Keyword Country is also much faster than standard software programs, returning your search results within seconds. Watch their free tutorial videos and you will quickly see the power and advantage of this service. Use it for one day, one week, a month, or even longer. It’s up to you.

As you may already know, keyword research is the most important step in the whole niche marketing process. Finding the right keywords is like striking gold. If these keywords represent searches by buyers, then adwords advertisers are going to pay a premium for their listings.

There are many good tools available for keyword research and as you narrow a broad niche down to some longer tail keywords that have less competition, you will begin to collect a list of article subjects for your optimization and marketing campaign, but what if you had access to a massive database of the highest paying adsense keywords? Wouldn’t that give you a gigantic boost towards building a profitable niche website?

A fantastic tool called Keyword Explosion not only gives you this database, but sorts the data into 5 powerful lists. Not only that, but as a bonus, you can use SEO explosion to check the competition for these keywords and pick the ones that are not only profitable, but have a low enough competition to rank for.

Keyword explosion / SEO explosion is not a monthly membership, but a small one time cost, at least during it’s March marketing test. If you want to save time in your niche selection and keyword research then this product is the one to get. Just one niche site can easily multiply your returns on this investment.

Another factor in determining your niches competition besides looking at the keyword
search results in Google, is to look at the quality of your competition. Sure, you want
your long tail keywords to have a lot of searches compared to the number of competing
websites, but does the analysis stop there?

Once you have found your long tail keywords, you should also test the quality of the
competing websites. Essentially, how many backlinks do the top ten sites for the
keyword in question, have. Are they links that contain keywords? Are they from high PR sites? Google looks to these backlinks as votes that elevate your sites importance and
the more relevant the backlink, the more weight it has in the determination of the site’s
position in the search results.

At 215 Cool SEO Tools (select Our Network, SEO Tools), you will find some free programs to help you check any website’s backlinks. Once you see the top ten results in Google for your keyword, you can also use Yahoo to see how many backlinks a site has. Just type link:URL into their search bar to see how many backlinks the site has.

Here are a few more tools to help you get quality backlinks to your sites:

  1. Comment Kahuna - The lite version is free and helps you find niche related blog sites to post comments in.
  2. Real Link Finder - A free tool by Neil Shearing. Similar to Comment Kahuna.
  3. Comment Sniper - The full version is currently free (don’t know how long that will last). This program allows you to search for a list of niche related blogs and subscribe to their feeds so you are notified on your desktop when a new post is made. This gives you an edge for being one of the first to make a reply comment because more people will see your comment (which has your site link).
  4. 3waylinks - This service costs just under $50/mo and automatically builds backlinks to your site in a natural progressive way. You can use this service with up to 50 top level domains, so it works out to less than $1/mo per domain to get more than 240 keyword varied backlinks for each site.
  5. 215 Cool SEO Tools - As mentioned above, this site has many free tools, but if you look at their menu of services offered on their home page, they have a very affordable selection of submission services for articles, directories, and social bookmark sites.
  6. BuyBlogComments - The title says it all, but make sure you read this case study by Jonathan Leger before you purchase. Not all blog comments stick.
  7. Social Bookmarking - Here are a couple of free sites to help you build social bookmarking backlinks: Social Marker and Only Wire.
  8. Social Media Inspector - This software program is similar to Comment Kahuna and Real Link Finder except that it does not look for blogs. What SMI does is uncover and list high PR Squidoo lenses and Hubpage hubs so you can leave comments and get indexed and ranked. These social media page backlinks are much more powerful than blog comment backlinks. It’s good to diversify your link portfolio with all of the tools listed on this post, but SMI is the most powerful.

One important aspect of getting backlinks is to use your keywords as the anchor text, but you don’t want to use the same keyword for all of your backlinks. They need to be
varied somewhat. Also, don’t buy into backlinking schemes that offer thousands of
instant backlinks all at once. Your backlinks need to be added gradually over time (human pattern) so that Google will not penalize your site.

In summary, look at your competitions backlink strategy to determine if you are able
to get into the top ten search results for your chosen keywords. This is probably more important than what the total number of competing pages are. Then, use free or paid tools to help you start building your backlinks in a natural progressive pattern. Use a
variation of keywords for your backlink anchor text. If you’ve done your research correctly, you should begin ranking high in the search engines within a couple of months or sooner.

One of the most important steps optimizing your blog for top search engine ranking is to choose the right keywords and write an article or post with those keywords in the title and body. This is called optimized keyword marketing and will help get your site ranked within the top ten of Google for those keywords. To illustrate this, just watch the following short video.

An integral part of finding a niche product is doing keyword research. What is a keyword? When someone searches for something on a search engine, what they type into the field of the engine is the keyword(s). It could be web hosting, xbox, buy treadmill, or a billion other subjects and combinations. The real question for the niche marketer is, what are the keywords that will bring buying customers to their website, what is the demand, and how much competition is there?

There are many tools for doing keyword research. Software you can buy, software that is free, and many online tools as well. Some well known online tools are Wordtracker and Overture. There is also a free tool on this site called Keyword Explorer. It shows the most popular keyword variations based on what you type into it and shows how many searches are performed each month for the particular keyword and also how many competing websites appear in google for the keyword search term. I use this tool myself to quickly find high demand, low competition keywords for my chosen niche.

Another great free online tool is SEO Book Keyword Suggestion Tool. You can do a lot more with this tool, such as selecting what country you want results for, search results for Google, Yahoo, and MSN. You can view Google trends and if you click on a keyword, it breaks it down into even more keywords. Take some time to practice with this tool and you will quickly see how powerful it is. It may be the best free keyword tool online.

If you are looking for some powerful videos on SEO, I recommend Traffic Blueprint. These are the best SEO videos available at under $10 and well worth it. One of the videos goes into detail on how to use the SEO Book Keyword Suggestion Tool. It’s not difficult though.

So, the main idea behind keyword research is to find relevant keywords based on your chosen niche market and find ones that have a high number of searches and a low number of competing websites.

There is much debate about what is the optimum value for monthly searches and competing websites. It really depends on what your strategy is. If you have a very narrow keyword based on a product name, such as “bowflex series 7 treadmill”, then fewer people may be typing that into the search engines. On the other hand, there will also be fewer competing websites and those who are typing product names into the search engines may be more prone to buy that product. Keyword Explorer says there are 2,000 monthly searches with 26,000 competing websites. SEO Book says there are over 7,000 monthly searches for the above term. These are pretty good numbers. You should be able to find products that have over 1,000 searches per month and under 100,000 competing websites for product specific keywords. The more searches and fewer competing sites the better.

For a broader term like Treadmill or Horse, you will have hundreds of thousands of monthly searches, but the competing websites will be in the millions. It is important to continue drilling down into the more specific longer tail keywords to find the ones with high searches and lower competing sites, but keywords that attract buyers. The term “iron horse” might have good search/competition numbers but have nothing to do with your horse related products, whereas “horse saddle” might be a better fit. Relevant keywords, general to specific.

Once you find several long tail keywords related to your niche product, these keywords can then be used as article and post titles on your blog site. Using the keyword in the title and body of the article will help with search engine ranking. This is also true if you are submitting an article to directories. Your keywords are what draws targeted traffic to your article or site once indexed by the search engines.

As a final example, lets say you did your product research at ebay pulse and chose the High Definition TV niche, or “HDTV”. If you type this keyword into one of our tools, you will get many variations with HDTV as part of the keyword. We may want to ignore the lower priced items such as HDTV Antenna or a less relevant term like HDTV Info. However, there are more terms that are of interest such as

  • Sony HDTV
  • Samsung HDTV
  • 32 LCD HDTV
  • 42 LCD HDTV
  • Sharp HDTV

There are many more that can be drilled down. Since these are popular items on ebay and people are searching for them in the search engines with the keywords listed above, this has the potential to be a profitable niche. Each item could be a seperate blog post or article optimized with the keyword phrase in question. If we use our ebay wordpress plugin to display relevant auctions it might look something like this:
